Jabiru

Jabiru has been amazing place- have met some lovely people who have shown us some lovely places. Have been to a few local rugby game and caught lots of fish. We also found this 2.5m croc floating along the river, nick couldnt resist getting it in the boat and taking a photo. Pictured is a croc well over 5meters, while launching this day the rangers let go a 4.2m croc at the boat ramp- they had been doing some research on its breeding habits . Slowly making our way home this week- back to the cold weather. It is now very cold in Alice Spring getting into the minus over night. Off to the Tennant Creek races this weekend- should be fun!

East Alligator fishing

Finally we have found some 'real' run off fishing, have been catching at least 40 fish each day for the last 4 days. The scenery has been amazing with lots of escarpment country and lush green flood planes.Check out the video attached - nick fishing for barramundi with surface lures- very exciting but very hard to get good footage (as neither of us rarely likes to give up the rod for the camera)

Off to the east alligator

After spending 10 days at crab claw island we are off to the east alligator river- in hope of some more barra. Caught lots of crabs at the island- the last few days have been rather windy- even got hit with a large storm on Monday.

Crab Claw Island

What an amazing place - as you will see from the photos the island is a little paradise. We have caught a variety of fish including, mangrove jacks, travelly, barracuda, barramundi, cod, golden snapper, sleepy sharks and lots of mud crabs. The weather has been brilliant, and have been able to go out fishing every day. Late yesterday we pulled up our crab pot and it had a 6ft shark in it, nick was more concerned as there was crabs in there- was was more worried about having this big shark in the boat!! We are off to try and catch some GT's tomorrow which apparently grow over a meter- right next to the island.

shady camp and sanpan

The fishing has been going well, we are now into our third week staying at the 'bark hutt inn', and we finally caught a mud crab- which was lovely to eat. Last Saturday we we out to a reef about 6km from the river mouth and managed to land a 130cm jew fish as well as lost of sharks, bluenose salmon and thread fin salmon. Also later in the week we took the 'care taker' from the bark hutt out fishing, Paul managed to land the 80cm barra, which had previously been hit by something and healed perfectly, it still managed to swim well. Yesterday i was lucky enough to catch a 102cm barra. Will be moving on next week to 'Byno' harbor.

Week 2 at Mary River

The fishing has inpropved as to the weather, the last of the rain has been and the roads opened up on friday. We caught some nice fish earlier during the week. Nick cracked the 1meter mark,  with a 104cm barra on tuesday. Have been 'mud crabbing' but to no luck yet, hopefully we will get some when the tides are a little smaller.
